Hello there, thank you for clicking the embed link. I'm trying a new way of sharing art, so bear with me.
(feedback on my art and on the site is greatly appreciated)
This is Nicole Ting from the hit game Rhythm Doctor, dressed as a matcha witch for Halloween :)
I start with a pencil drawing because I'm awful at using a tablet.
I make outlines of all of the parts I think need their own layers using vector tools. I tend not to draw anything that won't be seen in the final product, so excuse the lack of hair under Nicole's hat.
Now I work on the general color theme. I went with green and orange, because Nicole is very green and Halloween is very orange.
Here's where some magic happens. Goodbye line art! I also fixed Nicole's back arm so it was in a reasonable place.
My looping animations tend to have the character floating in place. Make good use of animation principles to breathe life into the rig. We love circular motion and follow-through in this household! Some of the motion was automated, like the floating matcha leaves on Nicole's hat. I also touched up the remains of the line art.
I've never done anything like this before ever, so feedback is greatly greatly appreciated here especially. I used Toon Boom Harmony's Tone and Highlight nodes to generate shadows and highlights. I also finally gave life to the ponytail.
Slap on a funky gradient and a little glow and you're done
